John James Courtney, 44, from Dagenham, has been slammed with a four-year jail sentence after cops cracked a string of daring burglaries across west and central London. His DNA was the smoking gun, tying him to four break-ins between August 2019 and January this year.
£27,600 Loot Stolen from Luxury Pads
- Courtney swiped an eye-watering £27,600 worth of valuables, including a whopping £15,800 haul from a single luxury home in Linden Gardens, W2.
- He made off with necklaces, bracelets, rings, a watch, laptops, and even a designer handbag.
- A blood smear on a door lock sealed his fate – forensic experts confirmed it was his.
Daring Knife Threat and CCTV Showdown
On 30 September, Courtney was caught red-handed in Cleveland Street, W1, but when the owners arrived, he threatened them with a knife and made a run for it, dropping the weapon and breaking his glasses – both vital evidence for police.
Months later, a Queens Gardens resident spotted Courtney robbing his home live on CCTV. Despite being warned on camera that police were being called, Courtney carried on stealing — though he left behind a mobile phone that helped cops nail him.
Police Hunt Ends with Arrest
Despite a relentless police pursuit, Courtney stayed off the grid until February 11, when officers finally arrested him. He pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary, breaching a criminal behaviour order, and possession of cannabis.
Judge at Wood Green Crown Court didn’t hold back, sentencing him to four years in prison on 23 April.
