Drug Dealing Flat Shut Down After Dozens of Complaints in Rochester

20 Complaints Spark Police and Council Crackdown

A flat in King Street, Rochester, has been sealed off after months of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour. Since January, Kent Police logged 20 complaints against the address, including county line drug offences and noisy social gatherings disturbing neighbours.

Woman Evicted as Closure Order Hits Flat

Kent Police’s Medway Community Safety Unit teamed up with Medway Council and the housing association to get a closure order. Medway Magistrates’ Court granted the order on April 21, which came into force immediately. The woman living there has been evicted, and no one can enter the property for the next three months under threat of arrest, fines, or jail.

Strong Words from Police and Council

Inspector Mat Burbeck said: “Anti-social behaviour is an unacceptable nuisance and we will always use the full remit of our powers to achieve the best possible outcome for affected communities.”

He added that the tenant showed “complete disregard” for neighbours and refused to change her ways.

“This strong but proportionate action shows our excellent partnership with Medway Council and the housing association. Nuisance behaviour will not be tolerated,” said Burbeck.

Medway Council’s Cllr Adrian Gulvin echoed the hard line stance:

“The occupant ignored numerous warnings, so action was inevitable. This sends a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Medway.”

The closure order aims to restore peace to the area and stamp out illegal activity once and for all.
