Man in Court After Woman Slashed in Brighton Street
A 28-year-old woman was viciously attacked on a Brighton street, leaving her with serious injuries. The assault happened around 9pm on Friday, 25 May, as she walked home with a friend along Selsfield Drive, near the junction with Lewes Road.
The attacker slashed her across the cheek with a knife, causing a deep wound that required specialist surgery. He then fled south down Lewes Road.
Police Hunt Witnesses After Brutal Knife Attack
Detective Sergeant Chris Lane urged witnesses to come forward. He said: “At the time of the incident, it’s believed a woman with a young boy was nearby. We appeal for them or anyone with information to get in touch.”
The attack is thought to stem from an earlier heated altercation between two men at The Level in Brighton city centre at about 5pm the same day. Police want anyone who saw that incident to contact them.
Suspect Charged and Remanded in Custody
Ryan Jenson, 33, unemployed and from Bernard Road, Brighton, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 27 May. He faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and unlawful possession of a knife.
Jenson was remanded in custody ahead of a trial at Lewes Crown Court, with the first hearing set for 17 June.
