Cop Stabbed in Broad Daylight in Portsmouth Park
Police are hunting for answers after a policeman was stabbed in the back while on patrol in Stamshaw Park, Portsmouth, at around 12:20pm today. The officer was hurt on Newcomen Road and rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
His next of kin have been informed. Authorities say there’s no wider threat to the community at this time.
19-Year-Old Arrested Near The Scene
A 19-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder. Superintendent Steve Burridge said: “Our thoughts are with our officer and his family this evening. He remains in stable condition in hospital.
“The public’s support so far has been overwhelming, and I want to thank everyone for their messages. It means a lot to the officer, his loved ones, and our police family.”
Investigation Linked to Drug Supply
Police believe the stabbing is linked to drug supply and say officers were in the area following an incident last night. The investigation is ongoing, with officers carrying out searches — especially for the weapon used.
