Dramatic Nighttime Rescue: Coastguard Helicopter Airlifts Seriously Ill Patient from Guernsey

A Coastguard search and rescue helicopter sprang into action late Friday night to save a seriously ill patient from Guernsey. The twin-engine Rescue 175, based at Lee-on-the-Solent, was scrambled shortly after 10pm.

Race Against Time from Guernsey to Southampton

The four-strong crew swiftly transferred the patient from Guernsey Hospital just after 11:45pm. The vital flight back to Southampton General Hospital included a flyover of the Isle of Wight.

Welcomed on Arrival by Medical and Rescue Teams

On touchdown at Southampton’s hospital helipad, nursing staff and members of the Southampton and Hillhead Coastguard search and rescue teams were ready and waiting to take over immediate care.

The entire operation was carefully overseen by the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) based in Fareham, ensuring smooth communication and a safe mission.
