Man Charged with Murder of 28-Year-Old in Mitcham

Detectives have charged a man with the murder of Arunesh Thangarajah, 28, who was fatally attacked on Upper Green East, Mitcham, on Sunday, 20 May.

Manimaran Selliah, 44, of London Road, Mitcham, faces charges of murder and attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) against a 35-year-old man. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 22 May.

Investigation Underway & Local Reassurance

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding from the Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the probe. He said:

“We will be speaking to locals and continue to appeal for those who witnessed the attack or have information to get in touch. I fully appreciate the alarm this incident has caused within the area.

This attack is not being treated as terror-related or racially motivated. The local community can expect to see my team in and around the area as the investigation continues apace.

I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak with officers or contact their local neighbourhood policing teams.”
