A30 Closed After Horror Van Crash Near Ottery St Mary
The A30 in Devon is shut eastbound from M5 Junction 29 to Ottery St Mary following a serious single-vehicle crash. A van has overturned, trapping two people inside. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 7am.
Emergency Teams Battle Major Incident
Devon and Cornwall Police, paramedics, firefighters, and traffic officers are working hard to free those trapped and manage the chaos. Fire crews from Middlemoor, Honiton, and Ottery St Mary joined the heavy rescue unit in tackling the crash.
“Fire appliances from Middlemoor, Honiton, Ottery St Mary, and the heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor attended a multiple vehicle RTC on the A30 this morning. Police and Ambulance also attended. This incident is ongoing,” said a fire service spokesperson.
Long Delays Expected – Plan Your Journey
The road closure is expected to last several hours. Police warn drivers to expect heavy delays and consider alternate routes, especially those heading to Exeter Airport.
Recommended diversion: Exit M5 at Junction 30, take the first exit onto the A376 eastbound. At the next roundabout (A386/A3052), take the second exit for A3052 eastbound. Continue to the A3180 junction and turn left. Travel north via West Hill on B3180 to rejoin the A30.
Ongoing Investigations and Repairs
As of 2.40pm, police remain on-site investigating the crash. Barrier repairs and inspections of a nearby bridge are planned before the road can reopen.
