Green Upgrade Underway on Popular Wroxall to Shanklin Cycle Track
Work has kicked off on a major facelift of the cycle track linking Wroxall and Shanklin – and it’s not just about smoother rides. Island Roads is teaming up with Sandown-based environmental experts Arc to sprinkle in eco-friendly features that’ll boost local wildlife.
Bees and Blooms to Get a Boost
The upgrade, set to finish by mid-September, could see the addition of bee tubes and plants that support the local ecology. Bee tubes, already a hit in other projects by Island Roads, offer safe homes for the buzzing little pollinators vital to the island’s ecosystem.
Bridging Repairs Without Disruption
The project zooms in on the seven bridges peppering the cycle route. Each bridge will get a thorough clean-up – decades of grit and grime will be scraped off, plus waterproofing to stop future wear and tear. Expect strengthening work, repointing, and replacing broken bricks too. Best of all? Cyclists and walkers won’t face any closures during the work.
Commitment to Ecology and Community
“Once again we are seeking to ensure that as well as improving this important element of the Island’s cycling and walking network, we also look to support local ecology,” said project manager Jason Boulter.
