Two Dead in Horror Fire at South-West London Flat
A deadly blaze tore through a flat above a shop in Tolworth Rise South, Kingston, early Tuesday, leaving two men dead and several others hospitalised.
Fire Breaks Out Before Dawn
Firefighters rushed to the scene just before 5am. The London Fire Brigade reported flames engulfed the roof and first-floor flats. Eight fire engines from New Malden, Surbiton, Sutton, Wimbledon, Kingston, and nearby stations battled the inferno.
Two Men Die, Five Hospitalised
Tragically, one man and another victim were pronounced dead at the scene. Five other men were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a west London hospital by paramedics.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent four ambulance crews, our hazardous area response team and an incident response officer. We assessed five patients and took them to hospital. Sadly, two people were dead at the scene.”
Neighbouring Homes Evacuated
Five neighbouring properties were evacuated as a safety precaution. Kingston Council provided temporary accommodation for those displaced and are working closely with the fire brigade and police as investigations continue.
Road Closure and Investigation Underway
Tolworth Rise South, a service road alongside the southbound A3, remains closed between Southwood Drive and Oakdene Drive, according to Transport for London. The cause of the blaze is under active investigation.
