Woman dies after being hit by White Range Rover on Reading’s Inner Distribution Road
A woman tragically died from serious injuries after being struck by a White Range Rover on Reading’s busy Inner Distribution Road (IDR) in the early hours of Saturday morning. The road remained closed until shortly after the crash.
Taxi driver tried to avoid fatal collision
A taxi driver, who wished to stay anonymous, revealed he had to swerve to avoid hitting the same woman just moments before the fatal crash near Queen Road. The driver had a passenger onboard when he spotted the woman, believed to be aged 35-40 and wearing a large coat, wandering drunkenly in a traffic lane before 1am.
Bystanders battle to save woman’s life
After the collision, several motorists and another taxi driver rushed to help. One motorist attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the woman at the roadside while awaiting emergency services, who arrived quickly. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The woman was in a very bad way. Lots of motorists stopped to help,” said the taxi driver.
Police appeal for witnesses
Thames Valley Police launched an investigation and spent hours at the scene. The White Range Rover involved was recovered on a flatbed lorry shortly after 4am, and the road was reopened.
Officers are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101, asking for the Joint Operations Unit.
