Fish and Chip Chef Doused with Acid in Shocking Whitstable Attack
A chef and part-owner of a Whitstable fish and chip shop was rushed to hospital after being attacked with acid outside his own store early this morning. The horrific assault happened at Ian’s Plaice, previously known as Ernie’s Plaice, on Thanet Way.
Acid Attack Linked to Botched Robbery
Kent Police were called to the scene at 8:49am following reports a man had been assaulted with a corrosive substance. Police say the incident is believed to be connected to an attempted robbery that went wrong.
“A man has been taken to hospital. So far no arrests have been made but we have started to make enquiries,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
Tougher Laws Crack Down on Acid Attacks
This attack comes days after the Crown Prosecution Service introduced landmark sentencing guidelines for acid crimes. Anyone caught carrying acid could face up to four years behind bars, while attackers risk life sentences, reflecting growing outrage at these brutal assaults.
The CPS’s new rules mark the first time judges have been given specific direction on how to handle cases involving acid or corrosive substances.
