Emergency services are battling a fierce blaze this morning in Hackney, E5. Ten fire engines are on the scene, backed by London Ambulance and police officers.

Flames Engulf New Synagogue on Belize Terrace

Witnesses say the fire broke out at the new synagogue on Belize Terrace. About 50 firefighters are tackling the inferno. Flames can be seen pouring from the building as crews work to control the fire.

Brave firefighters have been removing Torah scrolls to save precious religious artefacts from the blazing synagogue.

Fire Started in Towel Room, Spread Fast

Sources reveal the fire began in the synagogue’s towel room and quickly tore through all three floors. The ground floor partially collapsed into the basement, creating dangerous conditions for crews.

Station Manager Nicola Lown, who was on scene, said: “The ground floor partially collapsed into the basement leading to hazardous conditions. Two fire rescue units helped shore up the floor, allowing crews in breathing apparatus to access the basement fire more safely.”

Massive Response, No Injuries

In total, fifteen fire engines and around 95 firefighters and officers responded, including teams from Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Homerton, Hornsey, and Holloway stations.

The London Fire Brigade was called at 11:56pm and had the fire under control by 6:53am. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
