Grenfell Fallout: Portsmouth Council Scrambles to Check High-Rises

In the wake of the devastating Grenfell Tower fire, Portsmouth City Council has launched immediate safety checks on all 13 of its high-rise and low-rise blocks across the city.

Cladding Under Scrutiny After Fire Tragedy

The council flagged cladding on two buildings, sending samples straight to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for urgent testing. These buildings were clad around 2002 and are believed to meet current UK Building Standards.

Fire Service Calls for Sprinklers in Every Tower Block

Meanwhile, Hampshire’s 1 and Rescue Service is pushing hard for all tower blocks to be fitted with sprinkler systems immediately, citing safety concerns aggravated by the Grenfell disaster.
