Serious Crash Brings Portsmouth’s Eastern Road to a Standstill

A major collision outside the Good Companion Pub in Portsmouth has forced police to shut Eastern Road this lunchtime. The crash involved a car and a motorbike and happened just after 12:30pm near the junction with Velder Avenue.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, landing on the carriageway, before airlifting the injured man to Southampton General Hospital.

Massive Traffic Chaos as Police Investigate

  • Eastern Road remains closed in both directions to allow police from Hampshire’s Road Policing Unit to carry out a full investigation.
  • Traffic is gridlocked around the area, with police turning vehicles away from the scene.
  • Stagecoach South warned the 21 bus service is facing delays near Copnor due to diversions from the road closure.

Latest Update

Police have now reopened the southbound carriage of Eastern Road but traffic remains heavily congested in the surrounding streets. Motorists are urged to avoid the area while recovery and investigation work continues.
