Fareham Flyover SHUTDOWN after Teen Cyclist Hit by Car
Chaos hit Fareham this evening as police closed the flyover on Eastern Road following a smash involving a car and a teenage cyclist.
Teen Cyclist Injured After Crashing into Windscreen
The incident unfolded at around 6.10pm. A teenager on a pushbike collided with a car, hitting the windscreen. The young rider, reportedly not wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury and was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Driver’s Passenger Also Hurt
A female passenger in the car was also taken to hospital with whiplash-type injuries. Thankfully, her condition isn’t considered serious.
Traffic Chaos and Road Reopening
Drivers trapped on the flyover were forced to reverse back to Market Quay Roundabout amid the closure, which lasted just over two hours. Despite the disruption, local buses using the bus lane remained unaffected.
“We were called at 6.04pm to a collision between a car and cyclist on Eastern Way, Fareham,” said a South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman. “The male cyclist had a head injury and the female driver a back injury. Both were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.”
