Police hunt attackers after vicious homophobic assault in Southsea
Police are urgently appealing for witnesses following a shocking unprovoked attack in Southsea. A man and woman were targeted in the early hours of Saturday, October 15, as serious crime continues to surge in the area.
Victims assaulted near popular Hampshire Boulevard venue
The brutal incident happened between 2.45am and 3.15am on St Pauls Road, close to the Hampshire Boulevard venue. The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were confronted by three white men in their early 20s.
The attackers threw food at the couple before hurling homophobic slurs and physically assaulting them.
Injuries and police response
- The woman suffered a fractured eye socket.
- The man was left with a cut lip.
Detective Constable Sharon Lewry from Fratton CID condemned the assault. “This was a totally unprovoked attack, and we are treating it as a homophobic hate crime. While isolated, such assaults will not be tolerated,” she said.
