Shop Assistant Assaulted in Shanklin Co-op Robbery
A staff member was threatened and attacked during a brazen robbery at a Co-op supermarket in Shanklin this evening. Hampshire Police are urgently appealing for witnesses to the violent incident.
Masked Thug Bashes Staff with Crowbar
The terrifying raid happened around 10:30pm at the Co-op on Arthurs Hill, Shanklin. The man stormed into the store wearing a mask and wielding a crowbar. One shocked shopper said:
“It all happened so fast. A masked man entered with a crowbar. I saw him hit a staff member in the face. He was smashing the pole on the counter, shouting, ‘Give me the money! Do it faster!’ Then he lashed out again because she was too slow. She was bleeding from her nose – there was a lot of blood.”
An ambulance attended the scene to treat the injured shop assistant. Police have cordoned off the store as investigations continue.
Robber Flees Towards Cliff Path
The masked offender fled the scene, running off towards Cliff Path in Shanklin. Police have not confirmed if any money was stolen or whether this robbery is linked to similar recent crimes in the area.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers want to hear from anyone who saw the man hanging around or waiting inside the shop before the attack. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Hampshire Police on 101.
