Huge Fire Erupts at Cowes Boat Yard, Homes Evacuated
A massive fire has erupted at the Medina Village boat yard in East Cowes this lunchtime, sparking chaos and evacuations.
Blaze Rips Through Cowes Workshop
Seven fire engines and around 40 firefighters are battling the fierce blaze that broke out at TJ Motors on Bridge Road just after midday.
Residents reported hearing multiple explosions across Cowes as the fire raged. Emergency crews quickly set up a 200m exclusion cordon around the site to keep people safe.
Massive Evacuations and Ferry Disruptions
All homes on St. Andrews Street have been evacuated amid fears the fire could spread. Red Funnel Isle of Wight ferry services have been cancelled while fire teams tackle the inferno.
An ambulance spokesperson confirmed no injuries so far, but paramedics remain on standby at the scene.
Explosive Hazards and Damage to Local Charity
Officials warn there are highly explosive gas cylinders at the site, making firefighting efforts even more dangerous. Eyewitnesses say small explosions continue as firefighters don breathing apparatus to combat the flames.
Up to 50 fibreglass boats and several cars have been caught in the blaze. The chairman of the nearby Cowes Carnival charity confirmed the fire has dealt a major blow to the organisation, with fears two festival floats have been destroyed.
The fire is ongoing, and emergency crews remain at the scene working to bring the situation under control.
