Two Dead, Two Seriously Injured in Horror Hampshire M271 Crash
A devastating motorway smash has claimed two lives and left two others fighting for their lives on the Hampshire M271.
Catastrophic Collision Brings M271 to a Halt
The M271 motorway was shut down in both directions around 6pm last night following a brutal crash involving two lorries and a car caught in the middle.
Emergency crews faced a gruesome scene when they arrived. Two lorry drivers were trapped and had to be cut free from their cabs, while the car wedged between the giants was left unrecognisable.
Rescue Teams Battle ‘Total Carnage’
Firefighters from Redbridge, St Marys, Totton, and Cosham, equipped with specialist cutting gear and platforms, rushed to the scene. South Central Ambulance Service sent two land ambulances, a rapid response paramedic, and their elite HART team.
One rescue worker, speaking anonymously, called the scene “total carnage” — the worst seen in over two decades of tackling road traffic accidents.
“At first, we didn’t even see the car between the two lorries. The damage was so severe we couldn’t tell how many people were in the vehicle.”
Emergency Services Still on Scene as Investigation Continues
Two victims were rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but tragically, the two occupants of the crushed car were confirmed dead at the scene.
Police officers remain at the site piecing together exactly how the deadly crash unfolded, while fire crews continue rescue operations.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area as investigations and clear-up work go on.
